March Edition
BEREA:
Homemade cookies were taken to LNHS staff in February. Deacons Valentine banquet
was Feb. 13th. WMU Sunday was Feb. 14th. Church-wide dinner and a movie was Feb.
20th; the movie “Fireproof” was shown.
BETHEL:
Welcome to Matthew
Murdock as Interim Children/Youth Leader. Bethel will host SIHS and TMS students
for a Bonfire Rally in April. Land next to the church ball field is being
prepared to make it more useable—possibly as a community garden. Victoria Harris
was guest speaker on Baptist Women’s Day, Feb. 21st.
BEULAH:
Golden Harvesters
Valentine lunch was Feb. 9th. Ladies’ Bible study/breakfast was Feb. 13th. Kids’
Fun Night was Feb. 17th. Men’s Bible study/breakfast will be Feb. 27th. Senior
adults soup lunch will be Feb. 28th. Youth Disciple Now weekend will be March
5-7th. A group of men attended the men’s conference in Woodstock, GA, in
February. Team Kids collected items for the Dove House.
BLAISE:
On March 5-6th,
there will be a “Hands of Hope” adoption and foster care weekend. Pastors,
staff, ministry leaders, and spouses can register for a free catered meal on
March 5th. There will be a guest musician and speaker for both days. Exhibits
open at 8:00 a.m. on March 6th. See www.blaisebaptist.com/adoption.
CALVARY:
Youth sponsored a
soup luncheon after worship on Feb. 14th. Bingo games followed the lunch.
CASCADE:
The church voted
unanimously to merge with the members of Grace Fellowship.
CORNERSTONE:
A hunter safety
course was offered on Feb. 6th. Church-wide Super Bowl party was the night of
Feb. 7th. Marriage seminar was held Feb. 13th. Port-a-pit barbecue was Feb.
21st.
COUNTRYSIDE:
Youth volunteered
at 5th Street Ministries on Feb. 6th and will soon be collecting items for a
mission trip to Wheelwright, KY. Youth skiing/tubing trip will be Feb. 28th.
Plans are being made for a breakfast fundraiser for the new building project.
The church hopes to begin construction at the River Hill Road site in the spring
or early summer. Ladies continue their bi-weekly Bible study, “Having a Mary
Heart in a Martha World”.
COVE:
The Cove is developing a Career Life Enhancement program that is to begin in
March. More than 200 people have gone through the current Career Life program
there with about 35% of those finding jobs.
CRYSTAL WATERS:
Church-wide
soup/sandwich supper was Jan. 24th. Valentine’s Banquet was held Feb. 10th.
DIAMOND HILL:
We extend
Christian sympathy to the family of Rev. Harvey Clark, Pastor Emeritus, upon his
death. Two new small groups have begun: “Finding the Sufficiency of Christ in
the Midst of Loss” and “Experiencing God”. Dr. Ashley Allen, Director of Embrace
Ministries, was guest speaker for ladies of the church. Youth attended Winter
Jam in Charlotte.
FAIRVIEW:
Youth sponsored a
Valentine’s dinner production on Feb. 12-13th. Youth Sunday was Feb. 28th.
Awareness dinner for Massachusetts mission trip will be March 7th. Children’s
Sunday will be March 14th. Mission trip to MA will be April 22-27th. Senior
adult retreat to Caswell will be in May.
FAITH:
Youth attended Winter Jam on Feb. 6th. “Souper” Bowl Sunday was Feb. 7th with
members bringing food for SYBA. Super Bowl party fellowships were that night.
Contagious Love Sunday was Feb. 14th. Baby Bottle Campaign Sunday was Feb. 21st.
Adults sang at assisted living centers on Feb. 24th. Youth fundraiser “date
night” was Feb. 28th.
FELLOWSHIP:
Youth Super Bowl
Extravaganza was held Feb. 7th. Pastor Beau Mills, Rick, & Sarah Dyson were
commissioned to serve on mission in Peru on Feb. 8-22nd. Mrs. Courtney White was
guest speaker on Feb. 21st for Baptist Women’s Day. On Feb. 28th there will be a
song service featuring Carol Froehlich & Company.
FORK:
Acts 1:8 Sending Weekend was Feb. 12-14th. Seniors luncheon was Feb. 16th. Youth
ski retreat was Feb. 26-28th.
FRONT STREET:
Barnabas Project
Day was Feb. 6th. Small groups began Sunday night, Feb. 7. Kleenex and candy for
teachers were collected in February for N.B. Mills School. Celebrate Recovery
meets every Monday at 6:30 p.m. Rev. Chris Williams was CR guest speaker on Feb.
22nd. “Fireproof” will be shown on March 1st at CR; chili and wings will be
served.
GRACE FELLOWSHIP:
Women of Grace
delivered 170 Christmas gift bags to employees at Lake Shore Elementary & Middle
Schools. GFL carolers gave out 30 more gift bags at Big Lots on Dec. 20th.
Sanctity of Human Life Sunday was Jan. 24th. Beginning in February, women are
invited to gather every other Monday or Thursday at Three Goat Coffee &
Expresso. On Feb. 7th, the church voted unanimously to merge with Cascade
Baptist and to begin meeting at 691 Brookwood Street in Mooresville. Sunday,
Feb. 14, was Celebration Sunday with lunch following worship. Feb. 21st was
Sanctity of Human Life Sunday.
HEBRON:
Older children
will have game night on March 5th. An Easter party for children through sixth
grade will be March 27th. Dr. Dan Goldberg of Chosen People Ministries will
speak on “Christ in the Passover” on March 28th.
IJAMES:
Men and boys of
Ijames met for breakfast on Feb. 6th. Baptist Men’s Day was Feb. 7th with Chris
Price as speaker. Seniors’ sweetheart dinner was Feb. 13th. Annual church-wide
birthday party was held Feb. 28th. Youth sponsored Soles for Souls shoe
collection in February.
MOCKSVILLE FIRST:
We extend Christian sympathy to Pastor Van & Ann Lankford & family on the recent
death of her mother. Parents’ night out was Feb. 13th. Valentine’s banquet for
single senior adults was Sunday night, Feb. 14. Funds are being raised for a
mission trip to Ethiopia in 2011; 18 youth and 9 adults have committed to this
trip. Serve Africa Tennis tournament will be held March 26-28th as a fundraiser.
MONTICELLO:
Rev. Scott Lyerly, former Interim Pastor, spoke on Jan. 3rd about his mission
work in Boston, MA. Women’s Bible study on Esther began Jan. 18th.
MOORESVILLE FIRST:
Baby dedication was Feb. 7th. The movie “Fireproof” was shown Feb. 13th. XYZ
luncheon was Feb. 16th. London Broil mission fundraiser meal was Feb. 26th.
Pancake jamboree fundraiser will be March 5-6th. Used Bibles are being collected
for the Kairos ministry.
NEW HOPE:
Youth had a New Year’s celebration social featuring The Grass Vibrations
as entertainment. Praise Team presented a Christmas musical on Jan. 10th. AWANA
store opened on Jan. 13th. Special offering for Haiti was collected on Jan.
17th. Ladies night out was Jan. 25th.
OAKDALE:
WMU Sunday was Feb. 7th with Sandra Harrison as guest speaker. A church-wide
meal followed the service. Members had the opportunity to meet the members of
the Spanish Adult Sunday School class, their teachers, and the children from the
bus ministry. Senior adult lunch followed worship on Feb. 14th. Women’s retreat
will be March 12-13th at South Mountain Camp.
PENINSULA:
Peninsula began the 7-5-2 Prayer@Home Campaign. Faith@Home Family mission
statement night will be March 19th. A family mission trip to Montana is planned
for June, New York in July & September, and to Wyoming in August. Senior adult
dinner at Red Lobster was Feb. 12th, and senior adult luncheon at Peninsula was
Feb. 23rd. Bonfire Crusade was Feb. 14-17th. Senior adult breakfast will be
March 9th.
SOCIETY:
Sanctity of Human Life Sunday was Jan. 17th. International Missions Sunday was
Jan. 24th, and the church rejoices over exceeding their LMCO goal.
Community-wide Valentine’s banquet was Feb. 13th with entertainment by the
youth. Kevin Carter Trio was in concert on Feb. 14th. Baptist Men have
ministered to a family that was burned out and through providing fire wood for
those in need. A Saturday evening Bible study began Feb. 20th at the parsonage.
SOUTH RIVER:
Senior adult lunch was Feb. 1st with Rev. Steve Blevinson as speaker. Sunday
School Super Bowl Visitation Blitz was Feb. 2nd. True Love Waits youth service
was Feb. 7th. Church-wide Valentine’s banquet was Feb. 13th. Youth attended
Winter Jam on Feb. 13-14th. A mission team went to the Philippines on Feb.
11-19th; commissioning service was held the 10th. “Solo Connection” (dinner for
single women) will be Feb. 27th.
SOUTHSIDE:
Joyful Hearts
released their sixth recording project at a concert on Feb. 21st.
STATESVILLE FIRST:
Youth had a winter retreat in Boone. “Seasons of a Woman” workshop was held Jan.
23rd with various speakers. Exercise for senior adults is offered three days per
week beginning Jan. 25th. A commissioning service and reception were held for
Mrs. Jamye Duncan, Minister of Children & Families, on Feb. 7th. Fat Tuesday
pancake supper was held by the youth on Feb. 16th. Senior adult luncheon was
Feb. 18th.
TEMPLE:
Revival services were held on Feb. 7-10th with Rev. Jeff Chapman as guest
speaker. We extend congratulations to Pastor Jason Payne upon his graduation
from the West Lenoir Baptist School of Ministry on Feb. 26th.
TROUTMAN:
Valentine’s Banquet was Feb. 20th with proceeds going to the Live Nativity fund.
Operation InAsMuch will be April 24th.
TURRENTINE:
The Joy Club fellowship meal was Jan. 14th. Children’s department enjoyed lunch
and a movie on Jan. 16th. Pastor Scott & Jessica Schuyler hosted a church social
in their home on Jan 31st.
WATERMARK:
Current message series is “Man2Man”. Over $1,100 was collected for Haiti relief.
Ladies’ night out was Feb. 20th. Church-wide ski trip was Feb. 21st. A huge
community Easter outreach is set for April 3rd including a massive Easter egg
drop from a helicopter. Next sermon series is “Balanced”.
WESTERN AVENUE:
Young at Heart Valentine’s luncheon was Feb. 1st. Mission trip to Uganda will be
led by Rusty McLelland on May 24th-June 3rd. Mission trips to India and
Dominican Republic are also planned. Mission meal was held on Jan. 24th. Baby
Bottle Campaign collection was Feb. 21st. Ladies self-defense class was held
Feb. 21st. Festival of Tables will be held on March 6th. Food drive helped 19
families and SYBA pantry.
