January Edition
BEREA:
Pastor Dan Freeman and his wife, Judy, shared about their recent visit to the
Holy Land on Wednesday nights in January. Baptist Men’s Day was Jan. 23rd. Four
Dinners in a Bag Ministry has been well received and now includes gloves and
coats. Emphasis for 2011 will be on worship. Small group studies will begin Feb.
2nd.
BETHEL:
Sanctity of Human Life Sunday was Jan. 16th. Baptist
Men’s Day began with breakfast on Jan. 23rd. Fifth Sunday night singing will be
Jan. 30th. Women’s Bible study on angels will begin in February led by Karen
Graves.
CALVARY:
Children presented a Christmas play on Dec. 19th which
was followed by a covered dish meal.
CHARIS
COMMUNITY: Members of the church participated in the
annual Daniel Fast which lasted 10-21 days.
CLEVELAND
FIRST: Annual Thanksgiving meal was Nov. 20th.
Candlelight Hanging of the Green service was Nov. 28th. Ladies made treat bags
for shut-ins and elderly. Church float was in the Cleveland parade on Dec. 4th.
Youth went to Tanglewood on Dec. 5th. Choir cantata was Dec. 19th; children’s
program/birthday party for Jesus was that night.
COOLEEMEE
FIRST: Youth served eight families (29 people) through
the church clothes closet giving them clothes, books, shoes, school supplies,
etc. This ministry reached additional families on Jan. 22nd and served hot dogs
with all the trimmings to those who came. The church hopes to continue to reach
many more families in the church community.
CRYSTAL
WATERS: Soup/sandwich supper was Jan. 16th.
FAIRVIEW:
The Truth Project began on Sunday night, Jan. 9th.
Men’s Ministry fish fry was Jan. 21st. Men’s Day was Jan. 23rd. New member
orientation lunch will be Jan. 30th. Mission trip to Kenya is planned for July.
FAITH:
AWANA resumed on Jan. 5th. Deacon training was Jan. 7-8th.
Youth went to Winterplace on Jan. 22nd. Sanctity of Life Sunday was Jan. 23rd
with movie night presenting “To Save a Life”. Youth will go to WinterJam on Feb.
5th.
FALLSTOWN:
Adult choir presented a beautiful Christmas cantata,
and children presented “The Christmas Puzzle” on Dec. 17th. Members enjoyed an
afternoon of caroling and visiting elderly/shut-ins in the community. Youth
attended Xtreme Winter Conference on Dec. 29th-Jan. 1st.
FARMINGTON:
In 2010, Farmington launched an initiative (Take It to
the Streets) to reach every person in the area. Care packages including
toiletries, school supplies, candy, a Bible, etc. were distributed to at least
43 families.
FELLOWSHIP:
Baptist Men’s Day was Jan. 23rd. Fifth Sunday night
song service will be Jan. 30th at 7:00 p.m. featuring the quartet Freedom Way.
FORK:
Message series on “Choices” began Jan. 9th. Sanctity of Human
Life Sunday was observed Jan. 16th. Youth lock-in was Jan. 21-22nd.
College/adult ski trip will be Feb. 10-13th. Youth ski trip will be Feb.
25-27th.
FRONT STREET:
Welcome to Rev. Rick Cruz as Worship Pastor beginning
Feb. 6th. A reception for Rev. Cruz and his family was held Jan. 15th, and he
led worship on the 16th. Teacher treats were taken to NB Mills School on Jan.
10th. Young at Heart lunch was Jan. 18th. Youth Super Bowl party will be Feb.
6th beginning with worship at 5:30 p.m.
GRACE
FELLOWSHIP: Ladies’ pajama party was Jan. 21st. Truth
Project life group began Jan. 23rd. New Sunday School class for ladies will
begin Jan. 30th. Bible study for women will begin Jan. 31st. Medical mission
trip to Ghana, West Africa, will include Pastor Roy Mason and two others on Feb.
14th through March 5th. Medical supplies are being collected now.
HEBRON:
A covered dish meal was enjoyed on Jan. 1st. Youth bowling was Jan. 17th.
Baptist Men’s Day was Jan. 23rd with Larry Osborne as speaker.
IJAMES:
A Christmas Eve service was held; youth, adults, and
the adult choir participated in a Christmas play. Good News Puppet Crew
performed Jan. 16th. ROSE ladies’ Bible study on parables began Jan. 24th. A
Bible study in Romans will begin in February.
JERUSALEM:
Ladies’ Bible study on Jonah began Jan. 17th. Baptist
Men’s home repair workday was Jan. 22nd. Baptist Men’s Day began with breakfast
on Jan. 23rd; men led the morning service. Youth will attend WinterJam on Feb.
5th. Joyful Sound will be with the youth on Feb. 26th and lead worship on
Feb. 27th.
MISIO’N
BAUTISTA: Two children’s festivals (toy stores) were
held on Dec. 19th; in Statesville, 75 children received gifts and in Mexico, 300
children received gifts. A total of 250 children received shoes.
MONTICELLO:
WOM kicked off LMCO on Dec. 1st with a soup/sandwich
meal and program. Seniors’ breakfast was Dec. 7th. Adult choir and children
presented a Christmas program on Dec. 19th. LMCO was exceeded!
NEW HOPE,
DENVER: A soccer program began in August. A Charlotte
Eagles team player gave his testimony and trained the children in soccer. AWANA
program began in September for ages two to 14 years.
NEW HOPE,
STATESVILLE: AWANA Sunday and youth choir/praise team
performance was Nov. 28th. Church-wide trip to the Billy Graham Library was Dec.
3rd. Youth who participate in sports were recognized on Dec. 5th; a holiday
lunch was also enjoyed. Church-wide trip to Old Salem was Dec. 9th. Choir
cantata and praise team cantata were Dec. 19th. A Christmas play and social with
a visit from Santa were held. Caroling to shut-ins and New Year’s Eve party with
games for all ages were also enjoyed.
PENINSULA:
Child dedications were done on Jan. 16th. The 120 Days
of Intentionality will be Jan. 16th-May 15th. Senior adults luncheon and
visitation was Jan. 25th. Senior adult dinner will be Jan. 28th. Family mission
trip to Wyoming will be Aug. 6-13th.
SOCIETY:
An auction was held for LMCO. A Christmas play,
written and directed by youth leaders, was presented by the children and youth.
It depicted the life of Christ from birth to the cross. In January, Baptist Men
had a breakfast meeting with a speaker from the Rowan County Prison System.
Twenty people read the Bible through during 2010. A program of biblical readings
on courage, wisdom, etc. has begun for 2011.
SOUTH RIVER:
Iron Sharpens Iron Men’s Ministry will host a
Valentine’s banquet on Feb. 12th. The 1st grade SS class raised over $1,000
through a bake sale for missions. Guys and girls weekend was Jan. 21-22nd. Youth
True Love Waits emphasis began in January.
SOUTHSIDE:
Christmas Eve service was observed. Family Fun Night
was Dec. 31st with games and snacks. Sunday evening series by Dr. David Jeremiah
began Jan. 16th. The Cockman Family concert will be Feb. 13th at 6:00
p.m.
STATESVILLE
FIRST: Members are being encouraged to read through
the Bible chronologically in 2011 with weekly discussions on Wednesday nights.
Congratulations to Pastor & Mrs. Jeff Porter on the birth of a grandson in
December; a grandparents’ shower will be held for them on Jan. 30th. Deacon
ordination was Jan. 9th. Women’s Bible study by Priscilla Shirer began Jan.
17th. Youth ski trip was Jan. 21-22nd. Ladies’ night at the movies will be
Jan. 28th.
TROUTMAN:
A soup lunch will be provided for Troutman Middle School staff on Jan. 28th.
Valentine’s banquet will be Feb. 12th. Operation InAsMuch will be April 16th.
WATERMARK:
Third anniversary celebration was Jan. 9th. Two new
life groups began in January. Vision night was Jan. 19th with a covered dish
meal. Youth bowling & burgers will be Jan. 30th. “Souper” Bowl event will be
Feb. 6th. Youth service project at 5th Street Ministry will be Feb. 20th.
Mission trip to Zambia will be July 30th-Aug. 9th.
WESTERN
AVENUE: Financial Peace University began in January. A
new cycle of Grief Share began Jan. 16th. Mission yard sale was Jan. 22nd. Camp
WABC for children will be Jan. 28th (grades 1-2) and Feb. 11-12th (grades 3-5).
Hand Bell Ministry event will be Feb. 4-5th. The annual Festival of Tables will
be March 12th with Carmen Imes as speaker.
YADKIN:
LMCO reached $15,995! Senior Saints New Year’s
luncheon was Jan. 20th. Baptist Men’s Day and baptism were observed Jan. 23rd.
Youth Sunday will be Jan. 30th. Senior Saints Valentine dinner will be Feb.
11th. WOM Sunday will be Feb. 20th.
